Through his music, composer and multi instrumentalist Marko Nyberg conveys a world of magic, beauty and the idea of a spiritually aware sect with a shared common world-view. The "sect" of course is Husky Rescue itself, a collective of close friends as well as talented musicians. The Finnish band’s third album on Catskills Records is called “Ship of Light”.

Husky Rescue started their international career in 2004 with style. Their debut “Country Falls” introduced Marko's pop-savvy and compositional stylings. Husky Rescue’s sound was also Reeta-Leena Korhola on vocals, delivering each line with remarkable intensity and emotion. The cinematic sceneries found on the debut were further expanded onto 2006’s “Ghost is Not Real”.

After releasing and touring the first two Husky albums, Nyberg at first didn't have a clear-cut blueprint for the evolution of the band's sound. But learning about a reported UFO sighting near his home just outside central Helsinki further turned his interest towards nature, thus propelling a new wave of inspiration. He sees hope and beauty in the Northern surroundings, and embarking on a solitary songwriting trip to Lapland early on in the process was a crucial decision in the making of “Ship of Light”.

Another important feature of the album’s strikingly innovative sound is the use of instrumentation that Nyberg feels a personal connection to. One of his tools-of-the-trade is the rare Memorymoog, an organ-like instrument yielding a sound like no other. Nyberg remembers longing after one in childhood, and he stumbled upon one before starting on the third album.

Opening up a new chapter, some could say a transitional period in the Husky Rescue saga, "Ship of Light" is a strikingly fresh take on the bands charming pop and it would seem more intense in ambience. They recorded some parts of the album at remote cottages in the beautiful northern European countryside prompting Nyberg to call the ensemble "a contemporary musical congregation". Opener ‘First Call’ was recorded in the middle of the forest on a dark autumn night using wooden flakes on a string, an instrument traditionally used to warn off evil spirits. Current single ‘ We Shall Burn Bright’ is sonically rich and haunting and the listener travels to the forests and beautifully empty landscapes of Finland.

This album is the reminder of Spring ,the sign of the first Daffodil and the lighter evenings, a transition into a new chapter. Listen and swoon...

HUSKY RESCUE

The band was formed by Marko Nyberg who began composing under the name in 2002, wanting to create cinematic music influenced by film, photography and painting. When recording the debut album Country Falls Nyberg recorded around 20 musicians and singers for use on the album—each of them good friends of Marko's and all Helsinki-based. As Marko Nyberg puts it himself:

"Every track is designed to be a warm breeze to counter the chill of daily life, whether you live in cold climes or not. All moments from life become part of the music. Husky Rescue reflects our background in Helsinki where the winter nights are so cold and long while the summer is hot and short, but oh so sweet. It's melancholic music but there is always hope. Husky Rescue's music is like the first snow on the ground when you can still see the green grass through the snow. It's like spring's sunbeam after the long, dark, sunless winter time."

Husky Rescue also exists as a five-member live band composed of Marko Nyberg (bass guitar), Reeta-Leena Korhola (vocals), Ville Riippa (keyboard), Anssi Sopanen (drums) and Miika Colliander (guitar). Country Falls was released worldwide on Catskills Records in October 2004 and in spring of 2005 on Minty Fresh Records in the US.

"My World" has been used in Hyundai's "Think About It" advertisements, and "New Light of Tomorrow" was used in a P&O TV commercial.
